An important silver medal: Mondial des Pinots

We already explained, on several occasions, both the difficulties one may face in case they decided to grow Pinot Noir grapes and the complications brought along by the decision to participating in specialized wine competitions.

On one hand, general wine contests’ medals, although well-deserved and acting as guarantees for those wines’ quality, may be obtained easier than the medals from specialized contests, for reasons varying from price range to the inherent qualities of each grape variety.
Just imagine that a 10 euros Sauvignon Blanc is found in the same blind tasting flight with a 5 euros Aligote. The first one will win by far, even though it may be just an average wine in its class, while the second may be the best Aligote of all enlisted ones but… just an neutral Aligote.
On the other hand, when it comes to Pinot noir, the worldwide wine producers are slit in two – those who won’t grow it and those who couldn’t live without the permanent war this grape fights. Sensitive, pretending, demanding, always discontent, the Pinot Noir is source for most of the headaches winegrowers have through their years. In exchange, when the race through all the potential disasters comes to an end, Pinot Noir is the grapes that tells the most comprehensive story about its terroir, about the way the winegrower cares for its vineyard and cellar, about his love for wine.
This being said, we can only rejoice for the fact that our 2013 Pinot Noir won a silver medal at the 2016 Mondial des Pinots, a competition that brought together in front of the jury some 1,347 Pinots from all around the world.
